Esther Rose (Glickstein)
Comments
North Shore Magazine said, “Even though few people have heard of Esther Rose, she was once a major force in American marketing. It was Rose back in the 60’s who ingeniously named the world’s most famous hamburger, the Big Mac.”
Von Steubenites knew me as Esther Glickstein. As the creator of the name “Big Mac”, I’ve been on NBC TV, numerous radio shows, written up in many
newspapers and various internet sites.
In 2010, I received the State of Illinois Community Service Award and in the neighborhood news appeared as “Someone You Should Know”.
The senior class bid included my poem “End of the Rainbow” and since then I’ve written three books, performed in several musical community theater productions and at present perform with the “Love to Dance” tap performers. My career was in advertising. At present, I volunteer for an animal shelter and the library.
Our former classmate, Jackie Goldman, wrote in my yearbook “If you get as much satisfaction out of life as with volleyball, you will do okay!” Ever since I was the captain of Von Steuben’s intramural volleyball team and helped take Von Steuben to the city finals, my love for volleyball continued. I’m going on 37 years working evenings for the Glenview Park District coaching/ref/supervising volleyball.
I’ve been the captain of a women’s league where we won several championships.
Besides volleyball, the love of my life is my better half, Rick, my sons & grandkids.
